serving the great lakes with experience, precision and unwavering commitment since 1899.
Known as “The Towing Company” for more than 125 years, The Great Lakes Towing Company has played a vital role in one of North America’s most important economic waterways, the Great Lakes Seaway System. The Company has continually adapted to meet the evolving needs of the agricultural, steel, and construction industries.
Originally headquartered in Cleveland’s Terminal Tower, the Company has always operated a Cleveland-based shipyard. Following the 1952 Cuyahoga River fire, the shipyard relocated to its current site in the Old River Bed, where it has built and maintained the Company’s fleet and later expanded into commercial ship repair in 1983.
